Letter From The Editor:

Dear Friends of Healthy Thoughts

Happy New Year!

What a year 2007 turned out to be! So much turmoil and unraveling  seemed to come from every corner of the planet. I hope that this year will prove to be a year of hope and action. A year when we all put aside out differences and pull together for the common good of our planet and out children.

On New Year’s eve I sat with a few friends and enjoyed a great meal. While eating dinner we talked of what we would like to put in place for 2008 and what we were willing to let go of.  This question of letting go is a very good one. What am I willing to let go of in this next 365 days? I don’t need to accumulate any more in the way of objects or success, but I sure could benefit from emptying a few things from my mind, heart and home. What is it like to create a goal of letting go? What does it look like?

I had to think on this question for a bit before I could answer it. My answer was simple. Let go of the thought that I am lacking anything in my life. I have love, health, family, friends, a clear mind and a warm roof over my head. My list of blessings is immense! I let go of the mind that sees the clouds instead of the rainbow. Half full is my motto, not half empty.

I will leave you with a quote that I found just prior to Christmas day. Maybe it will inspire you to let go of something.

“Are you willing ... to own, that  probably the only good reason for your existence is not what you are going to get out of life, but what you are going to give to life; to close your book of complaints against the management of the universe and look around you for a place where you can sow a few seeds of happiness ... to make a grave for your ugly thoughts and a garden for your kindly feelings ...Then you can keep Christmas.”

-Henry van Dyke

Love and peace!

A HUMANITARIAN MISSION

Social regeneration through rural empowerment is the goal of the Himalayan Institute’s humanitarian mission. At the core of their activities is the HI Community Center, which is based on an integrated approach to rural empowerment.

The human race has never been as connected as it is today. In this era of globalization, marked by an ever-increasing degree of integration and mutual cooperation, it is more important than ever that we cultivate sensitivity to the suffering around us.  More>>>>

ARE YOU A WHOLE AND HEALTHY MIDLIFE WOMAN?

BY RANDI BURNHAM NP

Are You Suffering Needlessly?

The most important thing that I have learned in the past 26 years as a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner is this - there are tremendous numbers of women with hormone imbalances suffering needlessly, an amazing array of options are available to help and that many women just don’t know it! You can feel healthy, balanced, vital, sensual and energetic.    More>>>>

ASK THE DREAM LADY

Dear Dream Lady,

What does it mean if I’m dreaming of taking a trip? I’m always trying to go from the east coast to the west or from the west to the east. This dream happens over and over. I never know how I am going to go on this trip. By car, boat, plane, train, etc.? What does this mean?

After a quick discussion the dreamer acknowledged that his 90th birthday was around the corner. He repeatedly mentioned in previous conversations that he is nearing the end of his journey on the earth plane.  More>>>>

Be All You Can Be

By Craig and Bernice Worthington

We live in constant fear, usually because we think someone will find out what we are hiding. “I’m stupid, I’m not worth it, I can’t afford it, they won’t like me, they won’t want what I have to sell, they’ll say no.”  All of these and more stop us from moving forward and having a great life.  Most of the time what we believe is just because we say so.  Yes, our capacity does come into play, but most of the time we stop ourselves.  When this happens, you can pretty much bet that we made-up the basic belief when we were young and without experience.  Way young!  So, you can start dumping those limiting beliefs and change your whole life!  More>>>>

A Natural Look at Halting the
Need for Repeated Antibiotic Use

Is this you: You have a health concern, such as a sinus infection or bladder infection; you seek medical care and are prescribed an antibiotic; after the 10 days, your symptoms return, causing you to see the medical doctor again for more antibiotics? Before you know it, your symptoms do not go away and you are taking more and different antibiotics for longer and longer periods of time.   More>>>>

DECORUM AND DEBATE
BY NICK VANDER PUY
Some anti-nuclear activists went to the Capitol hearing on a bill to repeal the state’s nuclear moratorium, and the members of the Assembly Energy and Utilities Committee didn’t like it.

The week before Christmas, I drove with Nukewatch’s John LaForge from Wisconsin’s north woods to Madison for a hearing on Assembly Bill 346, a proposal to repeal the state’s nuclear moratorium.   More>>>>

GARDENING BY THE MOON
BY JACKIE JOHNSON

Culpepper knew. Pliney knew.  Old time farmers knew and would say “plant potatoes by the dark of the moon.” Many of our noted herbalists associated plants with both the moon and astrological signs, and still do.  More>>>>

The purpose of this article will be to introduce you to one of the most intriguing nutritional products for the cancer patient. We are not talking about a cancer cure or even a cancer treatment. IS A GREEN ROOF RIGHT FOR YOU?
BY JOELLE NOVEY
We give you tips for deciding to go green with your roof, plus more ways to put your roof to work for the planet if a “green roof” isn’t right for you.

The sound of the rain pattering on your roof during a summer storm may also be the sound of a missed opportunity—for you and for the planet. Increasingly, homeowners are discovering the benefits of “greenroofing”—or covering a flat section of their rooftops with an expanse of small plants growing in a few inches of engineered soil.   More>>>>

NEW COMMUNITY SHELTER

BY TERRI REFSGUARD
At the New Community Shelter, this is the time of year we re- group and plan for the cold months that will quickly arrive. Today we have 93 individuals residing at the shelter – 26 women & 67 men. As we prepare for the colder months we (similar to our squirrel friends) gather & stock up on all those items we need on hand to get through the winter. We do so kind-of holding our breath-wondering just how many in our community may come to our door for help this winter.   More>>>>

TAMING THE BUTTERFLIES
BY JEANNE LOEHNIS

Imagine getting a butterfly to go where you want it to go, to fly directly from point A to point B, as is in your plan. Impossible? Well, perhaps so. The beauty of the butterfly is hard to see and appreciate, so rare does the butterfly settle long enough for us to fix our gaze.  More>>>>

TRANSFORMING FEAR INTO FAITH

BY SHELLEY RIUTTA

When I first began to do Breathwork with clients I would sit alongside of them as they would do the deep breathing pattern that is a part of the Breathwork process.  At times I would feel the temperature change in the room and it was like a cool breeze was moving through the room.  Moments after I would feel that sensation, the client would comment to me that they were feeling a lot of fear and that they felt cold.      More>>>>

WHY WAIT?

BY Rev. Etienne Pait

Why wait for the death of someone before realizing and responding to the truth of who they are?  Why wait to see and know yourself as you really are?  Why wait to remember God?  Why wait to change from projecting unfinished business unto others to simply extending Love?  Why wait to shift from distorted perception to clear vision?

We, in our humanness, have been trained on the foundation of judgment – judging what is right or wrong.  Judging, however, distorts our vision which results in perceiving what’s not real.  Be that as it may, Spirit is consistently guiding us through the unreal by gently coaxing us to realize the real.  More>>>

YOUR CREATIVE SPIRIT: COMING, GOING, COMING

BY MARY CURRAN

We are surrounded by the wonders of impermanence andthe magic of temporary… things seen and experienced out of the corner of life’s eye…people, places, events, fairies, dreams, reflected light.  Sometimes we have mixed feelings about the “temporary.”  Hugh Prather, in The Little Book of Letting Go, says that it is a reminder that we can’t control time, conditions, and impacts out into the future – beyond our immediate reach.  If we let ourselves, we tend to focus on problems, not solutions.  We worry out of fear of what will or won’t happen.  He also advises that worrying doesn’t make us more comfortable, and it doesn’t make for better decisions.  It does fragment our mind, shatter our focus, distort our perspective, and destroy our inner ease (I try not to waste a “perfectly good worry” on things I can’t influence, fix, or change.)  More>>>>
