Wrinkles and cell phones

By Christine Riemer

Baby Boomers (born 1946-1964) will start turning 65 in 2011. People age 65+ represented 12.4% of the U.S. population in 2000 but are expected to grow to 20% by 2030. In 2006 U.S. Census projected almost 8,000 people turning age 60 each day, or 330 each hour.

What Causes Aging?
Most scientists agree that aging is, at least in part, the result of accumulating damage to the molecules–such as proteins, lipids, nucleic acids (DNA and RNA)–that make up our cells. If enough molecules are damaged, our cells will function less well, our tissues and organs will begin to deteriorate, and eventually, our health will decline. Like our car, our parts start to wear out, and we gradually lose the ability to function.

Despite the fact that a major portion of disease was once believed to be based on genetic predisposition, the completion of "the human genome study" in 2003 has allowed researchers to reveal that the opposite is true: 85% to 96% of all disease is due to environmental causes (Baranova). Take out the environment from the aging equation: "The cell is immortal. It is merely the fluid in which it floats which degenerates. Renew this fluid at intervals; give the cells something on which to feed (nutrients) and, so far as we know, the pulsation of life may go on forever..." (Dr. Alexis Carrel, Winner of the Nobel Prize).

Aging Revealed
Potential effects of aging include free radical damage, dehydration, mal-absorption, toxin accumulation, genetic damage, impaired cell-to-cell communication, blood brain barrier leakage (dangerous substances reaching brain tissue), stagnation of bioenergy, increased cortisol levels (stress), and low thyroid and immune function. Interestingly, these are the same effects produced by exposure to radiation emitted from our popular wireless devises: cell phones, cordless phones, Bluetooth, PDAs, iPods, Wifi, and their related powerful transmission towers dotting our landscape.

Of aging and radiation, Sherrill Sellman, N.D., writes, "Cell phone users are at risk of premature aging skin. Cell phone radiation heats up body cells, damaging skin cells and accelerating the development of wrinkles...In general, it appears that EMF (electromagnetic frequencies) pollution leads to more rapid aging in general, including elevated blood glucose levels, elevated lipid levels, high blood pressure, increased neuro-regulatory disturbances, decreased testosterone levels in men, and impacts on the central nervous, cardiovascular, and immune systems...Some of the specific biological problems include disruption to the blood-brain barrier, genetic damage, breakdown in cell-to-cell communication, and increase in the risk of cancer."

Slow Burn
Painful conditions endured by fire lookout workers in California (cell towers 30 feet from manned lookout tower) are identical to those suffered by Japanese victims of nuclear explosions in 1945. The identical damage resulting from both nuclear explosions and cell phone high frequency microwave radiation is a pathological condition in which the nuclei of irradiated human cells eventually splinter into fragments called "micronuclei", a definitive pre-cursor of cancer. After the Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster in Russia in 1986, exposed Russians quickly developed blood cell micronuclei, leaving them at high risk for cancer. Swedish epidemiological studies confirm that, after 2,000 hours of cellular phone exposure, or a latency of about 10 years, brain cancer risk rises by 240%.

No Sheriff in Town
Unlike second-hand smoke, there’s no escaping electropollution, estimated to be far greater than the global scale on warming. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the single regulatory agency, has neither the money, manpower, nor motive to properly monitor radiation output. FCC safety standards are inadequate to protect us and are obsolete, based on the unfounded theory that only power density hot enough to flash-cook tissues is harmful. Russia’s public exposure standards are 100 times more stringent than ours because Russian scientists have consistently shown that, at U.S. exposure levels, humans develop pathological changes in heart, kidney, liver, and brain tissues, plus cancers of all types. Thanks to the Telecommunications Act of 1996, we have no vote, no voice, no choice. The act prohibits state and local governments from considering environmental (health) effects when locating wireless (cell phone) towers so long as such facilities comply with the FCC’s regulations. One author suggests that the war on cancer will never be won under current U.S. safety guidelines.

What Shall We Do?
Although our popular modern wireless gadgets are emitting radiation that is dangerous, insidious, and undetected by the senses (sight, smell, taste, hearing, touch), there is good news. Science and medicine have developed a "gold standard" for dealing with toxic exposure issues called the Public Health Paradigm. The Paradigm always encompasses primary, secondary, and tertiary (third layer) interventions. Primary addresses the cause of the problem and is best accomplished by reducing or cancelling out exposure. Speaker phones, air tube headsets, and noise-field technology are examples. Secondary deal with symptoms of the problem, primarily disrupted inter-cellular communication. Here, subtle energy products that balance and enhance the biofield (human energy field) are recommended. Tertiary deals with stopping the symptoms from coming back. For this, optimum health is key and products designed to detoxify and strengthen the body are most effective.
