Could Orthopedic & Spine Therapy be the Treatment Partner you have been looking for?
The Problem:
Say your doctor suggests that you receive physical therapy for your back pain. How is physical therapy going to help you? First, not all physical therapy is the same. The treatment approaches and outcomes vary, just as with any health care profession. There are physical therapy treatment methods that are more efficient and consistent, while optimizing your return to life in general.
The Solution:
The Physical Therapists at Orthopedic & Spine Therapy (OST) use manual therapy treatment techniques following the osteopathic model. The osteopathic model provides us with a framework in which we can evaluate the patient systematically. This hands-on method is more efficient and effective than simply chasing the pain. Physical Therapy will assist you in finding the root of the problem, rather than covering it up with pain pills. The OST Physical Therapist (PT) approach emphasizes assessment and correction of abnormalities of biomechanics, gait, and posture. All of our PT’s receive advanced training in manual medicine, based on an extensive knowledge of joint mechanics and anatomy.
With general PT settings, patients are evaluated by the PT, and then the majority of their treatment time is spent on a machine or in a pool under the supervision of a PT Assistant. This kind of physical therapy often gives disappointing results.
The Physical Therapists at OST will do a complete initial evaluation. During the initial evaluation, you and your PT will establish goals and set a plan of treatment that will include the frequency of the number of visits to accomplish the goals. Treatments may vary from 1 to 3 times per week. Generally, the more acute your pain, the fewer the visits it will take to rectify your problem. At OST we feel strongly that the most effective treatment should be delivered within 24 hours of onset. If you are not sure that therapy is right for you, we are happy to offer a free consultation so that you may consider physical therapy as a treatment option.
Once you and your PT have created your goals and set the plan for treatment, your actually treatment may focus on the muscular components, skeletal components, neural components, or any combination of these. Every patient is different, and treatment is different based on the restrictions identified in the evaluation. However, the goal of manual therapy always remains the same: to restore maximal, pain-free movement of the musculoskeletal system in postural balance.
This is what sets us apart from the competition. At OST our PT’s use a combination of manual physical therapy and osteopathic evaluation and treatment techniques. In other words, our therapists use their hands to treat, as well as focus on identifying the cause of the problem rather than simply treating the symptoms. We go beyond traditional physical therapy to provide advanced specialized treatment, exercises, and rehabilitation specific to the patient’s individual case. In addition, our physical therapists emphasize education to help improve the patient’s lifestyle. Whether an individualized exercise program, posture, and/or body mechanics pertaining to he job or leisure activities, our goal is to ultimately have the patient independently maintain and improve good health following therapy.
While we’re known for our spine-related expertise, we’ve brought that same quality of manual therapy to all orthopedic conditions such as:
